Light

Pride poem by Allie Huerta

Light - guache on paper (9 x 5.5 in). Original artwork by Allie Huerta.

As I begin to regain

from a dream I’ll soon forget

I notice a heaviness

taking all over my breath

Making me weary

Making me wallow

with an emptiness

it seems I’ve swallowed

Outside, blue and vast

Sunrays like honey

pour all over me

Orange and yellow

It all begins to mellow

I take a deep breath

I inhale darkness

for I know I can transform

that which pains us into light

into beauty, into art

My body exhales

Even though there’s no color

I feel a rainbow

where all I felt was hollow

I arrive at home

I arrive to love

For I will transform

our sorrows into colors

inspirational
