By Default

Some lives are made by choices

mine by hesitations

They say

choose wisely

weigh your pros & cons

use caution

look before you leap

But it all comes down to timing is everything.

Hesitate and the choice is gone

default upon default piles up around your feet

drowning you in lost opportunities

building walls of exhaustion and frustration

Layering my body in inaction

hesitation by hesitation a default life

swallows me

Can I break the pattern? Scream a choice before default silences me?

I hesitate,

wondering

Can I?

And the moment passes

by default

About the Creator

Cathi Allen

When my first-grade teacher said to write a book, I wrote a book. It won a Young Authors award from the AAUW. I thought I'd be writing books for the rest of my life. Until I had to get a real job. I've finally fired myself. Hello, pen!
