Life’s an Improv Show
Act Like You Know the Script

Is there a script I haven’t read?
Or do we just fumble until we’re dead?
I traipse onto life’s mega stage
Unsure what I’m supposed to say
Each act in life an improv show
What happens next I do not know
Yet I maintain faith it’ll be okay
No matter what I do or do not say
Bit actors come and go
Main characters steal the show
Which am I in this play?
Where’s the director? Who’s to say?
Still I’ll try to keep up the act
Until I learn after the fact
What role I was meant to play
On life’s stage day to day
Son, brother, lover, friend, father
Am I the hero or merely cannon fodder?
I think the main writer went on strike
So life’s next act is an open mike
Is this parody of life a comedy?
Perhaps it’s really a dramedy
So I’ll laugh when it seems right
Cry or scream or maybe fight
While keeping an eye for the cue card
Because this improv crap is really hard
By the way, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Oh, my turn, think of something to say
Now I approach the final curtain
Was my show a hit? I’m not certain
Take a bow to the unseen audience
Just as clueless it’s truly obvious
Some laughed, others just yawned or sighed
But I await the limo for my final ride
To the next act in this cosmic show
Into the limelight with an unearthly glow

Very fun but also truthful. I think we all felt this way from time to time.
Nice work, but I thought it was a cabaret...
