Life! “Put Me Down”

Notes from the Edge of Holding On

By Marcus HillPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

I really am.

Although noticing is difficult.

Each sign is as present as the next —

subtle, but not invisible.

Just simply existing in plain sight — unbothered.

Questioning the recipe of normalcy,

like its DNA made no sense.

Fairness is a dream I lie about

to protect the reality of what’s obvious.

But can we all agree?

This is too much for anyone to carry.

The duct tape and glue have worn thin.

I’m not sure they even stick anymore.

Still here, holding on —

not sure if the pieces still work,

but at least they move.

I stay far from corners,

'cause once I peek,

the clock of destruction begins.

Surprise lost all meaning

ever since you quit hiding your face.

Now you jump out boldly,

as if to say: “The choice isn’t yours.”

Bring the fight. I love those —

I was built from it.

Not sure how this ends,

but I’ll win,

even if I lose.

Guess I never needed a break after all.
