Closely entwined like the lichen,

Distant like the kiss of the visible horizon;

Rainbow valley of the dearest children,

Tiny palms' and merry hearts' love feast.

Bare feet padding against mellow grass,

Powerful sword orchestrating the Piper's Music,

As the haunted night brought a loathsome intelligence,

Hearts melted like wax.

Lips that smiled were chapped,

Birds could warble no more,

Flowers could bloom no more,

Spring could be enchanting no more.

That gloomy night when ye decided,

In her room, the light glowed fearfully

That doomed morning when the train whistled,

A brotherly kiss ye bestowed,

The ground beneath her trembled,

She blinked away the tears that blurred her sight,

To look at thine handsome face.

Every telegram brought

Pain and fear,

The skies portrayed

The battleground,

The stars dropped lifeless like the brave soldiers who fell by the sword,

The stew and broth

Both smelled of blood.

Her sleep was tarnished as was yours,

Her life was famished as was yours.

When the bullet pierced your heart,

A sword pierced her heart,

It was Providence who made you write that night.

You thought you left no sweetheart,

But maybe if you didn't soar west,

You would have realized.

Rilla dearest, sacrificed her treasured possession

And thus Una owned a part of you;

Just the thought of you sending her greetings,

Rumbled in her soul a wave of emotions.

She carefully caressed the words,

As your voice echoed from the script.

In the middle of the night she crept to the Rainbow Valley secretly;

Embalmed your letter with red roses and white tulips.

As she sat there in the hollow of memories,

A star twinkled brightly in the dark sky.

She looked up to see you shimmering on her!

"Keep faith"

Your velvet voice crooned against the darkness.

She took hold of the letter and pressed it to her lips,

She faithfully obeyed,

And kept faith.
