Life After Death

A eventual necessity of moving on

Life After Death

By: H. M. Zike

Death is an ending for one.

For everyone else it’s a beginning.

Life is different after death, slower, emptier.

It is the start to a painful journey.

Learning to live without the one you loved.

You learn to live with a hole.

They say that time heals all wounds.

This is not true.

A lifetime cannot heal what has been lost.

What has been taken too soon.

Months go by, you find a new normal.

You find coping mechanisms for the reminders all around you.

You smile at the birthday parties.

Even though you cried the whole night before.

It’s painful to think your smile won’t be in the crowd.

But it’s a party you can’t bring everyone else down

Holidays there’s one less chair.

But missing you doesn’t inspire cheer.

It’s impossible to forget that you’re not there.

The very thought permeates the air.

It’s become the new normal missing you.

Happiness is tinged with sadness.

Anger drowns the loss.
