Letting Go

When True Colors Are Revealed

True colors can only be masked for so long,

Eventually they will shine through.

I asked myself⎼ when did things start to go wrong?

When you began to show the real you.

You painted this picture using bright pastels,

However, that was far from fitting.

Took time to uncover the truth in your sell,

But that’s the reason I am quitting.

Did you ever care, or was it all a lie?

I sit and ask myself these questions.

But is there any use getting stuck on “Why,”

And overlooking your transgressions?

What good would the answers even do for me,

They say actions speak louder than words.

I gave you strike one, and strike two and strike three,

To give you another is absurd.

That is not how this game works, the game of life,

You don’t have unlimited chances.

You cannot say I didn’t try to play nice,

Catered to all your circumstances.

But starting now, I am putting myself first,

That’s what you encouraged me to do.

I am letting us go, and although it hurts,

I’m not losing myself to keep you.

I thank you for all the lessons you taught me,

And for your words of affirmation.

I’ll cherish the times that things weren’t rocky.

If it serves any consolation.

So I bid thee farewell and a fond adieu,

It is a shame that things could not work.

And I know in my heart that I will miss you,

But I have to put this in the dirt.

I wish you the best and I want nothing more,

For your success in all that you do.

And in return, all it is that I hope for,

Is wanting the same for me, from you.
