Letter to my Daughter

For every woman

Letter to my Daughter (For every woman)

What I am trying to say is simple-

Do not let anyone put your fire out.

You know, the spirit inside of you.

Every day I have been watching you, and I see you slowing down.

Like a train coming into a station.

You have every right to go fast.

To catch the wind in your hair and feel the sun on your face.

But you must be careful. If you move too slowly, that is when you pick up what you do not want.

If you move too slowly, all the passengers who will not pay but want to ride can grab hold of you and weigh you down.

You must learn when to move out of someone else’s way out of courtesy and know when it is OK to crash into something head-on.

There are times when you need to break.

When you need to refresh.

When you must look around and see where you are.

But there is no reason for you to stop and act as if you have nowhere else to go.

You are strength.

You are beauty.

You are useful and needed.

You are warm and full of life.

You are moving because you are a force, a beautiful, amazing force.

You carry more weight than you know.

Yet, you are delicate and tender.

There is a rhythm there.

A beat you invented.

A scream that is for all time a sound everyone will know.

You have only to go....
