Let Up
For the “One of Us” Unofficial Poetry Challenge devised by Kayleigh Fraser

If tomorrow starts without me
It will be what I have sought:
A world that I owe nothing
Where I will quietly rot

No debt will I accumulate
No disappointment face
The escalating interest rate
I will ignore with grace

No longer will I worry
About how to stave off death
I will not be bound to hurry
To appointments, out of breath

The produce in my refrigerator
Will have no power over me
To no victuals will I cater
Another lunch I will not see

No vitamins will I be moved take
My ancient teeth I will not rush to brush
A shopping list I will not have to make
On no one will I develop a crush

Never again will I do laundry
Nor wash or dry a dish
Nor wrestle with any quandary
Nor overcook a fish

This is so simple and so relatable, I say as I look at the bunch of bananas rotting on the counter. I swear they were green just yesterday. Then again, so was I.
I love where this went. Each stanza felt more relatable and the normalness of the images made it all the more striking!
A very dark take on the prompt! Well done
Great job! I’d have to say stanzas two and three were my favorites
This felt soooo liberating! Loved it so much!
Awesome piece
