Let There Be Light

The Light and Legacy of Christmas

Let there be light

and there was light

Let there be sound

and there was sound

Let there be all we could ever want or need

and God began to breathe

As he inhaled and exhaled

the world we know now began to form

We needed mountains and valleys

seasons and change

Deep oceans and shallow rivers--

families to share a name

We had it all in the garden

so close to our maker

Could it really be so good,

so pure like this forever?

For some reason we wanted more,

so we lied and disobeyed

From favor to fall,

everything was changed

Now we were on our own

separated from our Creator

Under earthly kings

or wandering in the desert

Through distance and time

the rising and fall

He always wanted us back

He had a plan through it all

From Abrahams, Davids,

Rahabs and Ruths

A line was traced--

a seed protected for me and you

In darkness and silence

God spoke and God breathed

Once again providing

all we could want or need

He chose Mary and Joseph,

so humble and kind

After years of separation,

it was finally time

A magnificent song was bursting forth

with promises to fill all who thirst

Through angels, miracles, fear and trust

our savior was born, from heaven and from dust

Light and sound took on skin and bones

good news of great joy from a heavenly throne.

Every story unfolded, every prophecy fulfilled

all creation sang, for love was finally home.

He is Immanuel, God with us

He is Christ the Lord

He is Messiah, the Anointed One

He is Jesus, the Savior of the World.
