Let The Wind Take Me
Where is my future Butterfly?

Butterflies flutter in the summer sun
sipping nectar from blue flowers
I am alone
enjoying their play.
.
I miss hearing a voice
that tells me I am loved
that the longing is strong
that he’s thinking of me.
.
I miss seeing a face
that smiles, even in hardship
that lights up
my life.
.
I miss breathing in the scent
of my closest friend
who sparks
my desire.
.
I miss tasting the salt
that cleanses and gives life
even after tears
have run down his cheek.
.
Where is my future
among these fluttering butterflies
so effortlessly wrapped in carefree trust
as if nourishment just appears
.
Why do I feel trapped
Bound by thoughts
Held down by worry
My shoulders weighed down.
.
Should I learn from butterflies
just let the wind take me
to where the nectar of joy is found
Loosen my grip and follow.
.
A friend who stirs something deep
But lives his own life
Share it with me, beautiful one
I am so much more.
.
The work is done
Loneliness thunders
against my quiet being
Once again.

🖋 Author's Note
This poem was born in the quiet space between doing and being — where the noise of everyday tasks had faded and the weight of longing returned. I just returned from my work, and I long for life. In a few days I should have celebrated my weddingday, but my husband died last year. I miss him.
I wrote it while watching butterflies dance in sunlight, unbothered, light, and free. In their fragile flight, I saw both hope and heartache. I had all of a sudden tears in my eyes because of their freedom.
This piece is for anyone who feels alone in a world that moves too easily without them.
May we all find a breeze strong enough to carry us somewhere warm.

Today I was landed on by a cabbage white and a red admiral, hope you feel better soon
Your poem is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. You're not alone. I've been widowed twice now. So painful. But life goes on until it doesn't, so I intend to enjoy as much of it as I can. I hope you find love again. Until then, I'm willing to be a friend! Maybe we can shop around for guys together!?? 🤣😉
This was so poignant and beautifully written. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️
Longing weighs like a heavy blanket of snow. Soft. Peaceful. But still lonely.
