"Let's Do This The Hard Way!"

The six words that still reverberate through my nightmares.

They’ll tell you to get over it.

Wonder why you can’t forget it.

The trauma replays in my mind.

Over and over, on a constant rewind.

I don’t need anyone to remind.

It’s ever-present, on my mind.

.

“I know my rights.”

He threw his hands,

Screaming, “Let’s do this the hard way!”

Sent me flying,

I heard her scream.

Reaching for his gun,

He laughed in our faces.

Tore us apart,

Destroyed all the traces.

.

Nothing could undo,

Nor ever replace either one of you.

He destroyed every bit of evidence.

There was nothing I could do.

I helplessly held you,

While the blinding lights flashed red and blue.

.

Justice never comes.

It doesn’t exist in this twisted world.

Judges in their pocket.

They’ll say anything to make a buck with a docket.

Lies at the ready,

Holding a gun, hands so steady.

He doesn’t care that he’s corrupt, abusing his power.

Doesn’t care that he made us all cower.

Just another bully donning a badge.

Free to beat, abuse, slander, and defame.

.

Damn.

I wish I could shout out his name.

What good will it do?

When so many blindly back up the Thin Blue?

What can you do?

When they set their predatory sights upon you?

Do they still fail to see that their job is to the community?

They weren’t signing up to join the military

Yet far too many running around so angrily.

Look closely, they’re all ready to burst a capillary.

Vein throbbing in that forehead,

Don’t breathe wrong or soon you’ll be dead.

. . .

Powerful. It takes courage to write on such subjects. My favorite line: Justice never comes/ It doesn’t exist in this twisted world. Yes. And still, somehow I hold onto the hope that good writing helps to set things right. Thank you for sharing.
