Let go

Let go

We heard the news at the same time

When the sounds of silence filled the room.

There was no discussion or doubt in my mind

Those words we heard were designed to consume.

-*-

We fought together as the onset arrived

But your mind gave up and broke down on me

I had to hold you, play quietly, and be deprived

Of moments of peace that may never repeat.

-*-

I hold the fort, as your heart was not ready

Walking in silence, tagging along your free roam.

We came together, even knowing already

Sadly enough, only one is coming back home.

-*-

Your tears were screaming what your mouth couldn't say

There were plenty of them to understand your pain

I gave you my heart and still felt betrayed

As all of my endeavors were completed in vain.

-*-

We've been together for a very long time

And we already knew that this sting could appear

Our pain, our void, our silence, and our grime

They were only a facade to conceal our real fear.

-*-

You are not alone. You are my whole world

And I can't imagine what the future will be

There is one big thing, either you liked it or not

You will have to accept to a certain degree.

-*-

I feel your pain. I have no doubts in my mind

That this situation is pushing you off track

But put on my shoes. Let go and break the bind

Remember that it is I who is not coming back.

There’s a deep honesty in admitting betrayal and still choosing compassion. This poem captures the complexity of loving someone through loss.
