Lessons from a Woodpecker

Foresight, hard work, and self-reliance

Inspiration Everywhere

In nature.

I went to the

oak woodland

for hiking.

Rested under an oak,

and a rhythmic pecking

sound caught my attention.

I looked up to the canopy—

and there it was:

a woodpecker

drilling holes in the trunk

dedicatedly.

Then he will

gather acorns

and stuff them there

for lean times.

It’s a 'pantry tree'

in making.

The bird knows—

nature is seasonal.

The autumnal cornucopia

will vanish, come winter.

It has nobody to feed

but itself.

So the woodpecker works hard:

Drill, gather, stuff,

and repeat till darkness.

What a spectacle it was!

I saw foresight, hard work,

self-reliance

from this tiny little bird.
