Leaving the Water

Leaving the Self

By Rigoberto GuerreroPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Leaving the water, leaving the self,

The fish swims on, in search of wealth.

But what is wealth, to a lonely heart,

That longs for love, but finds no part?

The river flows, the current strong,

The fish swims on, its journey long.

It seeks a place, to call its own,

A place to rest, a place called home.

But home is lost, in waters deep,

The fish must leave, and never sleep.

For every dream, that it may keep,

Is lost in waves, that run so deep.

The sun is gone, the night draws near,

The fish still swims, with endless fear.

It knows not where, it should belong,

It sings a song, of endless wrong.

For every joy, that it has found,

The fish has lost, a thousand pounds.

It longs for love, that cannot be,

It longs for freedom, to be free.

The moon shines bright, the stars align,

The fish still swims, with endless time.

It seeks a love, that's lost in pain,

It seeks a heart, that's lost in vain.

For every tear, that it has shed,

The fish has lost, a thousand beds.

It seeks a place, to call its own,

A place to rest, a place called home.

But home is lost, in waters deep,

The fish must leave, and never sleep.

For every dream, that it may keep,

Is lost in waves, that run so deep.

Leaving the water, leaving the self,

The fish swims on, in search of wealth.

But what is wealth, to a lonely heart,

That longs for love, but finds no part?
