As a small child
By those older
Larger and
Having
More
Force
Small &
Weaknesses
Involuntarily
Forced compromised
Far too easily
By older and
Much larger
Forces
Age
Enabled
My gifts
Of size and
Much greater might
With Intelligence
To fight back
Against any
Foe &
Win
No one
Will ever
Hurt me again
And I'm making
Damn certain
Of it
You can
Hate it all
You like but
It's because of
Men in my life
That I am
This way
It's because
Of a mother that
Either failed or
Chose to ignore
Those men
& Boys
And I
Refuse
To allow
Continuing
It ever again
It's Never okay
Never alright
And anyone
Punishing
Me for
Lashing out
Is just as wrong
They should be
Appalled over
The reason
This fire
Burns so
Deeply
Lays
Waste
Scorches
And they be
Synonymously
Intent on
Ensuring
Equality
Justice
Rights
For
ALL
Women
Publicly
Outspokenly
Because
Quiet
Is how it
Was buried
Was swept
Under
Rugs
All
Along

The Missing Ingredient
The first time I saw her, she was wearing a velvety, red ribbon in her hair. She carried a small leather backpack everywhere. She searched the forest by turning stones, checking beneath shrubs, listening to the wind as if it might carry an answer.
