Lately I've Been Thinking
(I need shelter from the storm)

Lately I’ve been thinking about screaming into the abyss
Into the nothingness
Searching for the solace only absence can provide
Total darkness, the only way to hide from the overwhelming onslaught
Of this over tumultuous world
So many red-flags, now brazenly unfurled
My ear was always to the ground
Bending down to listen
For the rumbling sound of troubles in the distance
But now I stumble in confusion
Every moment packed with the persistence
Of wave upon wave upon wave of wave of stubborn insistence
That trouble is in the water, in the wind, in the air
Everywhere you look, and hear, and speak, trouble is there
That the world as we know it and as we knew it is just gone
That we blew it
Now we’re soon moving on to picking up the pieces
Judging where they’ll fall
If in fact indeed there are any pieces left at all
Instead of bending down with my ear to the railroad track
I’ve drawn my head into my shell
A turtle spinning on its back
Feeling my “self” under attack
From a million forces
Connections shattered
Everything that mattered
In rivers changing courses
Who ever dreamed that the apocalypse
Would be like this?
The death of a thousand cuts
Unrelenting ifs, ands, and buts
But so it is
And there you go
Sinking back into the hedgerow
To get away from all of this
In the comfort of the abyss.
About the Creator
Ken Donner
Been writing since I was 9 years old or so.
Can't help myself.
It's how I'm wired.
A multitude of verse.
"I may never learn to fly, but keep the sky above me open, just in case."
