A Sonnet

Two souls are dancing in the evening light

Matching each other step for careful step

While their song plays long into the night

And between the rose bushes they leapt

He reaches out to pluck one from its place

Its red petals so precious in his care

His eyes take in each feature of her face

While fingers trace long journeys through her hair

The rose it wilts and petals fall away

Like his lover as she lay there dying

Their vibrance fading to a paling grey

Through their home are echoes of their crying

Hanging on to those you love and cherish

Can fill a life with bliss before they perish
