last call

[tongue in] cheeky

can there be a reason if nobody ever asks 'why?'

or gives a need to have the answer-

can't there be a reason even if none of us gets it right?

this is just a test, and we don't have to rhyme with each other's rhythms.

this is just a best-dressed rehearsal of day-to-day pass/fail lessons.

misdirected and hits like a sucker-punch

and i want to keep it cheeky like jesus even when i fail,

but i often fall short of what i strive to be.

because the real truth is everything-

what we know is only an educated guess at best-

and nobody said to keep your hands so close

or that we couldn't compare notes or work with together-

and even if we get it right, the steps mean nothing to the Dance Macabre,

so do it like it's your last chance to.

you look so alive when you're on that floor.

i make sure to get lost rather than be at one

when i am afraid to break my heart another time,

and i just heard someone say it's last call.
