Land of milk and honey and streets paved with gold!
The myths of childhood.
I wonder now if the roads beyond the 'Pearly Gates'
still drip with milk and honey.
That returning heaven bound,
would be as effortless as awaking every morning
refreshed and renewed.
Maybe one does not like honey, in and of itself,
yet, imagine the thought of Heaven being
a great vacation destination.
Would it be enough to dispel the fear of a re-awakening
in a place of uncertainty,
and so gently calm our morbid fear of death
and now be quite assured that...
Heaven is welcoming and beautiful.
As children growing up
we were convinced somehow,
that Heaven's roads were paved with milk and honey
or maybe just trees dripping with golden honey
While angels sang us welcome home with golden jars
and little cherubs offering sterling silver shiny cups

or some such, to sate our thirst after that long journey heavenward.
We always ever wonder how accommodating
heaven will be
to offer fresh milk and honey from angels every single day
as they await our inevitable erstwhile visit
to our vast and immortal heavenly family
waiting patiently for our timely return.

While we skeptically anticipated this fated visit, however,
the next best place to heaven for us to go
Was the good old U S A.

The roads in the United States of America
were paved with gold and silver
and living there meant a life of ease
and lots of wonderful things to eat.
The beautiful dreams of our childhood
rang true as we waited our turn to make a visit,
first to USA...and later, hopefully...much later,
take that loved and dreaded visit up to Heaven!!!!!
Then a really fortunate/unfortunate thing happened!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE GREW UP!!!!!!!
Finding answers now became quite the conundrum and dilemma!!!!!!!!

SIGH!!!!!!!!!

I am smiling at this.☺
I liked this and your ideas! Yes existential anxiety lol! I believe In stuff but not really heaven as such. I like the idea of an afterlife but I dunno. Im happy for people to believe what they want to believe. I’d much rather heaven on Earth now! That reminds me of that awesome Tracy Chapman song. So I see there is a new challenge for you? Have u written one yet? You could also enter a few of your past pieces…that might fit..
Nope, I travelled that 1km, no answers, only more questions, lol! Also, I'm not a fan of milk or honey. I want french fries. Does hell serve them? I need a lifetime supply of them. No wait, I mean deathtime supply. Hahahahahhaa sorry for my mumbling 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Loved your poem!
Ah, if only answers required but a on kilometer hike. Wouldn't it be grand?
🤍
A fascinating reflection! Did you ever visit the USA?
