Transparent you are
to see is to see
To believe is to believe
You are my guide when I see light
But when things get dark
You are dim to me
And I become untrustworthy
My next steps seem way far ahead of me now
You no longer seem to be right behind me
The flame in my protective case is out
Once burning with trust
And it's difficult to believe I won't trip over my next step
I once had hope and safety on this spiritual journey
I only know darkness because of this guidance
Why lead me in the dark
I should believe in you
That you will place that soft glow in me
Again and again
But to see is to see
To believe is to believe
Which means it also depends on me
Illuminate me
My wick needs to be strong and sturdy in your word
I need my fuel
So pray
Such a fool, that’s right
I know the way
You are the only way
With or without darkness
You have to continue on this path

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
