Lamentation for a Precious Planet
a poem in honour of our earth

In somber tones, I sing of nature's plight,
Of dire condition, a sorrowful sight.
Once vibrant and lush, now withered and frail,
The environment, a ship caught in a gale.
Oh, how the forests, once teeming with life,
Now stand as mere remnants, a scene of strife.
Their emerald canopies, once proud and tall,
Now reduced to ashes, a tragic downfall.
The rivers, once pristine, now tainted and gray,
Their waters polluted, life slowly decays.
Once home to creatures, both great and small,
Now devoid of life, an empty hall.
The skies, once clear, now shrouded in haze,
The air we breathe, a toxic-filled maze.
The birds, once soaring, now struggle to fly,
Their wings heavy with sorrow, they no longer try.
The oceans, once teaming with vibrant hues,
Now choked with plastic, a devastating ruse.
The coral reefs, once a colourful delight,
Now bleached and lifeless, a ghostly sight.
Oh, how we've ravaged this precious Earth,
Exploiting its resources, for all they're worth.
We've ignored the signs, turned a blind eye,
To the consequences of our actions, oh so sly.
But let us not despair, for hope still remains,
In the hearts of those who fight for its gains.
Let us unite, hand in hand, to heal and restore,
The environment we've damaged, forevermore.
For in this dire condition, we must find a way,
To mend the wounds we've caused, day by day.
To cherish and protect, with love and care,
This fragile planet, a gift beyond compare.
