Lament of the Trojans

Why did the gods let Troy fall?

By Isla GriswaldPublished about a year ago 1 min read

How could the gods abandon us Trojans

when we were so close to winning the war

and surviving these ten years of nightmares?

We sacrificed, we lost, we spent our men

like we were rich men on a spending spree.

But in the end, we didn't have their favor

even though we tried to gain it with prayers.

We were religious, devoted, devout.

Yet now the Greeks run amok in our Troy,

our beloved Troy, city of treasures.

No more will she stand proud. Ruined, wrecked, razed.
