Lake Water Like Silk
the water is always calling me home

This peace
pulls my heart so
Each time I leave
my heart stays
Beating
by virtue of water
like silk
being woven
in
and out
in
and out
. . .
Without water nearby
Memory fades
Movement becomes routine
World paper-thin
Body untethered.
Selkie without skin
Mermaid without soul
Yearning
Overstimulated
Underwhelmed
Consumed by emptiness
. . .
Until
submerged,
Skin and soul
entwine
. . .
Water of the ages
Transforms this body
to ancient matter
Touches deepest memory
Seeps into bones
beneath the sticky mess
these quickly moving atoms
have become
for a time
. . .
Truth sparks
. . .
Life is round
and full
and I will not fall
off the edge
by wandering too far
. . .
Deep breath
is a gift.
Greater
than
new shoes
binge watching
shiny trinkets
diplomas
dollars
Even
chocolate
. . .
To stay long enough
to fully embody
Truth
would ask
Everything
to become
Everything
. . .
In stillness I listen
to water lapping against shore
And beyond,
my children’s voices
. . .
Balanced between
Swimming deep
Walking empty
Both call me home
. . .
Yet
I can live and breathe
fully embodied for days
on
one toe
dipped
in the water
