Voir dire be damned

Blindfolded, elegant and tall she stands

The lovely Lady of renowned Justice

Her name; Themis, her law; divine

She is the personification of fairness,

Natural law, and a symbol for order

This allegorical persona, with moral force

Stormed into my earnest and terrifying dream

This Goddess, with the Scales of Justice

Held high in her right hand

And bearing a mighty sword in her left

Without the benefit of Voir dire or trial

Came ready to judge and to sentence me

Though bronze, sleek and wonderous to behold

I quivered and trembled at her naked feet

"I am the rule of law above all judicial moral code,

Mine is your final verdict from here until I say when" She voiced

"I am guilty of much, though I know not of what you speak" Said I

"Take the scales, take the sword. My time is over", she said

"I must pass this heavy weight which I have borne

For far more years than I care to mention,

Unto another, worthy of a fair and decisive judgement

With a strength within which to judge her fellow occupants

Of a tormented and tired world. They are found wanting

They need new dreams, new hopes, new reasons just to be

I have truly done my best, now new dreams yet unrealized

Awaits me to be freed from unfulfilled imaginings

It is now your turn to make things right. Good luck to you"!

With that said, she placed scales, blindfold and sword upon my bed

And away she fled, in great haste and rather relieved hurry

"No. Come back

I am not worthy of such a confidence"

"Yes, you are. Worry not too much about the opinions of others

I have judged you and found you morally not wanting; much"

Came floating in the wind

I awoke refreshed, renewed, rejuvenated and vindicated

My faith in myself had been restored

Onwards I go, stepping to the march of mother time

Fully confident in the continuance of my innate individuality!
