Values are seldom lost, before first being socially broken
It's why respect is now a rarity and love has become a token
I recently used a well intentioned term, it was met with criticism
A word I was taught to value, never foresaw it sparking cynicism
I was told the word "Lady" is outdated, backwards and spent
But by erasing "Lady", I wondered; how do I make sense of "Gent"?
Like "Gentleman", "Lady" isn't a matter of sex, or invented frivolity
Rather intended as recognition of a person, who has great quality
There's a sadness about today, we've forgotten the meaning of things
Misunderstanding the weight of words, is often where confusion begins
Should I now question "Gentleman", when this is how I was raised to be?
A word symbolic of honour & courtesy, notwithstanding common chivalry
I promote "Lady" to transcend patriarchy, resisting male expectation loudly
Encouraging values of civility, expressed as an aura that emanates proudly
Without "Lady", "Gentleman" diminishes, let's be cautious of words we revamp
Many a Lady still exists today, capable of seeing the Gentleman within a Tramp
