a million shades to the human condition
our existence
our essence
refractions of brilliance
a million tones to the human spirit
& a million more ways to process our pain
allow it to stain our hearts
or tie-dye our souls
a million hues to love
to laughter
to memories
& some sweet hereafter
polychromatic symphonies of beauty
of sin & of sinners
of triumph
of losers & of winners
but some of us reside in a colourless world
haunted by grays & high contrast rage
fixated on antiquity, on pearls
desaturated by lies, by half-truths
instead of looking for the prism within
they concern themselves with one source
one colour
one
your skin
they classify, antagonize & victimize
a belief in a colour conspiracy - a hierarchy
where the worth of your soul isn’t the rainbow contained within it
but the colour that imprisons it
we’ve fought wars over it
died in the streets from it
shot in our beds by it
say their names because of it
because we have the audacity
to live by the colour of our hearts
rather than the colour of our skin
