The kindness is coming
We would like to hear
We would like to think
Reason to smile
One day rejoice
One day revel
In life
We can hope
We can call it in
Like attracts like
(Except for magnetic poles)
Living kind, kind acts
Thinking like kind
It is coming
After its collapse
Humans relapsed
Practiced cruelty
Perfected it
Purveyed it
Systematically
Against our own
And other lives
Refused to accept
The suffering of others
Is not retrospect
No introspection
No concern
Industrial scale cruelty
Not considering the internecine
As world history attests
Too depressing to keep listing
Why so unkind?
Is this course unchallengeable
Unchangeable?
Consign cruelty to the past
Leave the past behind
Above all else
A thinking creature
Let’s think
Contemplate the consequences
The consequences of decisions
'The Consequences of Indecision'*
On ourselves, our lives - all lives
In our daily lives
All life, on earth, on other sentients
We are feeling creatures, highly emotional
Not our exclusive domain
Animals are driven too
By emotions - that we share
(Our name for chemical algorithms)
That should mean we understand
What another creature is feeling
Theory of Mind doesn’t just apply
To one species, Homo Sapiens
We should apply it to fellow animals
Life on earth sharers
We think, we feel
Therefore we are
This should make us kind
Compassionate, caring what we do
Animals feel
Therefore they are
Should that not make us
Treat them with respect
Deserving of nothing less
And so much more
The kindness is coming
Its realisation dawning
If we act as thinking creatures
Kind in mind and deed
Finally, humans being kind
Living kind
Humankind
The Kindness is coming
Reason for Cahaya to smile
Though that’s because for her
It has arrived
Epilogue
The consequences of kindness
Are unlikely to come back to haunt us
I for one, from this day on
Will stick to the right side of history
Now being rewritten, changing course
I will be
Kindsided

About the Creator
A. E. (Anthony) Lovell
Returning to the passion of my 10 year old self - animals and nature - I started writing about endangered wildlife. The red list is long, and getting longer. I have become a Wildlife Poet to give them a voice and help to avoid extinction.
