Thank you for the happiest year of my life,

How glad am I that I saw your sunrise smile!

And now that at long last I can call you wife,

I promise to join you for each step of every mile.

/

I can still clearly remember the night we met,

Though I didn’t know you then as I do now.

Just a fetching, quiet, and sweet brunette,

Unaware of the spirit your heart can allow.

/

Many have praised you for your beauty.

As for me, I see you as so much more -

I love your iron will and your love of duty,

The like of which I never experienced before.

/

Honest and humble - almost to a fault.

And though life hasn’t been kind to you,

With more qualities than I could exalt;

With each hardship you survived and grew.

/

Lucky to know you is an understatement,

Like another should boast like nature.

Indeed, to say as much would be inadequate.

As to being old together - I’d like nothing better
