Just Not Today

Shadows

Don’t let me fool you, for my shadows have a name

I call them pain

And, you as well, my friend, have a dark side of the same

We cannot be tamed

These shadows tug and tear

The fear ignites, and I find you still not here

Not anywhere

Why must we sabotage, and make others bleed?

Come to me, my friend, so we can be free

The power lies within the shadows, if only we would see

The brain, no match for the heart, just won’t let these feelings be

All the chemicals that tear us apart, are one, but not the same

No reasoning is great enough to escape these shadows

So who is to blame

Emotions can take over our path, for some may come to realize

But you and me, my friend, we can’t seem to get it together

So it’s time to finalize

Go home now, my friend, and play with the shadows, the ones you gave to me

For you need to see what I have felt

I promise, a great experience it will be

The shadows know all too well how to get to you, to bring you closer, or to steal you away

And then, one day, maybe another chance with each other

But, not right now

Just not today
