Just Be You

By George Winter

By George WinterPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I lay upon the beach today,

Golden sand upon my back,

Where the coastal flowers blossom pink,

The waters turquoise and black.

The hot amber sun beat down on me,

It was the most perfect day,

I drifted in and out of sleep,

Where I dreamt of what my parents would say.

I imagined of how they would look,

When I told them I was gay,

Would my fathers face rage red?

Would my mother turn away.

I blinked from my sleepy slumber,

I saw the weather start to turn,

The cyan sky it disappeared,

The orange sun ceased its burn.

What took its place were dark grey clouds,

In several different shades,

As the topaz day turned into night,

And the light was whisked away.

The heavens they burst with bluish rain,

The temperature it crashed,

So I ran for cover beneath,

A green and leafy ash.

Out of breath and soaking wet,

I pressed my back against the brown barked tree,

I pondered the monochromatic view,

Right in front of me.

Just as I was to give up hope,

I saw an old friend of mine.

A rainbow... shone across the horizon,

In technicolour lines.

The reds and yellows reminded me,

To act with love and passion,

While the different types of greens and blue,

Were telling me to have compassion.

The purples and the pinks they spoke,

To remind me to be true,

When combined the rainbow whispered to me,

“Just be you.”
