Just another day at the office

Till something better comes along

Just another day at the office

Every day she takes a morning shower.

She curls her hair.

Rushes to the station and with in the hour

she is sitting in her office chair.

She doesn’t want to be there.

She fakes it and she says a prayer

She checks her screen, avoids the call,

scrolls too fast, then stares at the wall.

Pretends to type, then bites her nail,

her mind’s already off the rail.

She dreams of rain and running faraway

no budgets, charts, or company car.

Her lunch is plain, she eats in haste,

scrolls for jobs, deletes in waste.

A joke goes round, she half-smiles through,

her eyes say what she wants to do.

She tells herself, just one more day

but knows the truth won’t go away.

There is rent to pay, she is stuck there

in a boring office bum sore chair.

Maybe the lottery ticket will win tonight.

She can kiss this office and chair goodbye.

Well written! I know this is exactly how I used to feel when I worked in an office!

  • This is a true story for many people. I resonate with the feelings of despair in the poem. We have all had jobs that we wanted to run out of the building shouting, "I quit!"
