Just Another Day

Another Plaintive Song

By Chris ZPublished 9 months ago Updated 8 months ago 1 min read
"No better half back home, no shelter from the storm"

Today was just another day

Of sadness, of sorrow

No different than tomorrow.

The universe cast me in my role

but the universe hasn't made me whole

for prayers unheard, for dreams deferred

by forces free from my control.

Today was just another day

To write another plaintive song

to have swallowed my pride

To go along to get along

Hollowed out inside.

Today was just another day

To take the road most high

to short my father's shadow by

seeing wrongdoing done,

and turning a blind eye.
