Introduction: I wrote this piece the other day and thought it was a good time to share with everything going on in the world right now. Society should know, we are not "just women", we are strong, capable human beings! Remember never to lose hope, and always know that you are stronger than you think. I think every woman needs to know that.
“Just a Woman”
I’ll never be good enough
She says
I’ll never be free
She says
In this life,
The only person I can count on
Is me
Maybe that’s okay
Maybe, just for today
I can do this
Or I can at least try
Finding a way
To get through the day
To stop the voices
And the pain
So much pain
No more dark thoughts
Creeping into my head
I am just a woman
Not so lucky, not so happy
Just a woman
Who am I?
Just a woman
Am I defined by this?
Am I defined by my gender or my mental illness?
I'm just a woman
Defined by self-pity,
Defined by shame,
Defined by low self esteem---
"Just a woman".
No,
I'm NOT just a woman,
I'm a force to be reckoned with
I'm smart, I'm intelligent
I can do anything he can do
Society created my low self esteem
But it will not take away my strength and my passion,
It will not take a way what makes me unique,
Because, you see I'm NOT "just a woman"
I am so much more than my identity.
