Jomo Kenyatta stood tall
A leader with a mighty call
Born in Kenya in eighteen ninety-four
He fought for his people and so much more
As a young boy, he herded goats
Yet his spirit yearned for greater notes
So he went to school and learned
And his love for knowledge forever burned
He was a teacher and writer too
But his calling was for something new
He sought to free his land
With courage and a steadfast hand
In nineteen twenty-eight
He left for England, with a determined gait
To fight for his people's cause
To take back what was rightfully theirs
He studied in London for many years
And his heart was filled with pride and tears
For his homeland's plight
And the struggles they had to fight
He joined the Kikuyu Central Association
And became a powerful voice for his nation
He fought for land and political rights
For Kenyans to live without fright
In nineteen forty-seven
He was arrested, unjustly taken
But he continued to fight
For freedom, day and night
He spent years behind bars
But his spirit remained unmarred
And in nineteen sixty-three
Kenya gained its independence, free
Jomo Kenyatta became its first president
Leading with firmness and gentleness, never hesitant
He built a nation from the ground up
And his people drank from a victory cup
Jomo Kenyatta's legacy lives on
His name etched in the annals of time, forever drawn
A symbol of hope and freedom
In the hearts of his people, forever bound.
