They told me to be nice
But Jesus wasn’t nice
Jesus was the guy with the whip
Cleaning out the temple
The guy who told the people in power
That they were wrong
The guy who got snippy
When he was woken up from a nap
Just cause the seas were thrashing
So don’t be nice
That’s not what the light looks like
The light is revolutionary kindness
That stands up for the poor
That feeds the hungry
That sides with the sex worker
That hangs with the outcasts
Your savior isn’t in the halls of your churches
He’s the homeless man you ignored
The refugee you called illegal
The disabled mom you told to get a job
And the child you refused to feed
It’s not nice
But it’s that terrifying kindness that will upend the world.
