Jerome : The yellow kid

In downtown lives, Jerome a 14-year-old, is the only child of his parents. Jerome goes to his school where he’s known for his intelligence and his passion for science.

Jerome has Glaucoma, which is damage to the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain. That forced him to wear very thick glasses. Those glasses were a big insecurity for the young kid. At school Jerome had to face a huge amount of bullying about his glasses and low vision and had so embarrassing moments, for example in the sports class one day he lost his glasses so he was under huge pressure to find them and while he searched for it he crushed the wall and people and it was so perturbating for the kid while all his class was laughing at him in a funny moment for them and a sad moment for him.

The story starts when Jerome is reading and scrolling Vocal website feed and finds an article that talks about the benefits of carrots, improving the eye's health and fixing vision, yeah for him it is a life hack, the boy starts eating carrots with no stop and for weeks.

Five to twelve carrots per day was Jerome's recipe to fix his eyes and he was always tried to remove his glasses to see the defense but no improvement the young kid never surrendered after the pain he got daily from getting bullied.

After some weeks of taking huge amounts of beta-carotene, one carrot has 4 milligrams of beta-carotene, something weird starts to show on Jerome's body, and the poor kid's skin starts to get colorized yellow…

His hands, tongue, and face were extremely yellow after five weeks and his parents were shocked especially after he was refused to enter school until he got diagnosed….

His classmates now stop bulling him instead start to be scared of him, and his new name changes to be the yellow kid.

After he visits the doctor and gives him all the details, Jerome is diagnosed with Carotenemia, which is a condition characterized by yellowing of the skin due to excessive consumption of carotenoids.

After the parents and school made sure that it was a harmless condition, the kid back to school and his life continued most of his school forgot his glasses and called him the yellow kid, while Jerome liked his new nickname and just adapted again.
