Jealous Visions
Pre-Raphaelite Ekphrastic series #2 Circe

I hover above a great burbling lake
Vanquished rivals stir beneath my feet
Searching for solutions and
Souls to take
Staring into my diviner’s bowl
°‧🫧⋆.ೃ࿔🧿*:・
Rolling my apportionment
A mother’s boon
Continuously trying to
Capture a patronly ray of gold
Examining the
Unbroken surface tension for
Signs and portents of a
Future, fearful, or fair
Blessed with companionship
Or held in fate’s snare
°‧🫧⋆.ೃ࿔🔆*:・
A silver hair swiveling
Like a compass’ needle
Almost imperceptibly
Disturbing the meniscus
A mystical spark attracting
To my scrying pool
Prescient detritus
°‧🫧⋆.ೃ࿔𓍯𓂃*:・
What at first glance
Appears fresh and vigorous
Has been infiltrated with
The venom of ages
Clothed in royal robes
Sight flashing bright a
Shining beacon in the
Dark night of mankind
Every lucky eye peering into the
Swizzling column
A rainbow of possibility
Refracted in the
Spout of seer's tears
I call upon
°‧🫧⋆.ೃ࿔🌊*:・
The fates hath granted me
Abundant charm and vitality
Yet every able-bodied supplicant
Seems to shrivel with incapacity
So I will scourge the hungry seas
Every inch of mortal territory
For the delinquent men who dare resist
My mysterious tricks
The sea water dripping from my lips

John William Waterhouse's take on the mythical figure Circe is one of my favorites. I love the colors of the water and the robe, the sea monster obscured beneath her. It truly is an inspiration; the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood movement was all about taking inspiration from classical literature and art, something I am all about.
