It wasn’t a dream
Oh, to be that lucky...

they all laughed themselves into a stupor.
i was the subject and cause—not on purpose.
fingers pointed, doubled over with aching bellies.
my face gave way to bewildered surprise as the
room spun me in circles at the center attention,
while the disparaging sounds of hilarity shrunk me
to a lilliputian universe.
but laughter is infectious. i began to chuckle along
with my work friends without knowing the hidden
surprise.
when the party settled down, i was finally let in on
the joke...
it seems my awareness of certain things, betray me...
since when does a wet pee stain become the main attraction?
that, and the trail of toilet tissue attached to the left
heel of my shoe, led to a priceless moment even kodak
would be proud of.
they needed a good laugh and on some morbid level,
i guess i'm okay with supplying one.
however, I can never walk in that office again
without being reminded of the embarrassed dunce
i was that day…
Khakis are no longer my friend.

Oh dear-- you have captured on of those wished to be forgotten moments that happen in life... and in dreams!
This is something I would want to wake up from! Great work and thanks for the warning about wearing khakis! Dark pants are definitely more ‘accident’ friendly.
Omgggg, I would have died from embarrassment. These people should be ashamed of themselves!
What happened t pulling someone aside and giving a heads up. We all have bad days...still be very careful when the colors are khaki conscious. Good one LW.
People can be cruel, in dreams or not, and will find literally anything about which to be brutal. This scenario is particularly harsh and the feelings of embarrassment bleed through your words. Excellent work.
I agree...those who laughed are the ones to be embarrassed. Good sharing, Lamar.
You did a great job of bringing a nightmare of embarrassment to life with this piece.
Body humor is not my favorite, to be honest. I empathize with the man and can’t believe adults can be childish like this.
Thank you for playing on fears normally reserved for my dreams
