It Was a Sea

Do you remember dear, when the Sun disappeared,And you bloomed in abundance along the shore?
Your namesake, all yellow, whispered shy “Hellos” and all I could do was adore
Shouldn’t you remember, in the middle of December, we sweat buckets in the heat
Our gray sky expanded, bore down heavy-handed, on our heads, our shoulders, our feet
My love, don’t call me crazy, but the sound of the waves, see. They were like the soft sighs of angels
Or maybe they’re crying? Yes, at your “Bye-bye”ing. It’s true, it was me all along
On the water I stepped, all alone I wept, tears flooding the world below
Though it should’ve taken years, my ocean of tears dried to salt flats and dust
Now in the wide open, just as I was hoping, there’s an island waiting for us
But fear filled my belly, my legs were all jelly, at the thought of not finding you
Our beach was all shiny, with forests, piney, and a shore of ivory and gold
Cattails filled its corners, but I stayed on the border, for I knew they were going to explode.
