"It Started With Me!"
An original 8-year-old poem

It started with me, 1
And 3 of my friends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
We bought some rare minerals, 5
We bought them online.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
We built a portal gun, 9
It was quite a sight.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
We jumped down the hole, 13
Like Alice and Hare.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
We found ourselves here, 17
But here as in where?
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
We looked all around, 21
And saw countryside.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
We walked one direction, 25
Strictly at night.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
We walked for a while, 29
They had to be somewhere.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
A castle at distance, 33
A kingdom exists there.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
We’d get there surely, 37
Just walk a straight line.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
The gates loomed grand, 41
Such an imposing sight.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
Guards nowhere in sight, 45
We entered from there.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
Silence all around us, 49
On end stood our hairs.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
Twas desolate entire, 53
The ghosts hid inside.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
A shadow was looming, 57
Just hardly a sight.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
We neared the dark umbral, 61
We could only stare.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
The form coalesced, 65
A person we stared.
The government was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
It started with me, 69
And 3 of my friends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The FBI entered, 73
with nary a sign.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
They covered ground slowly, 77
Not hiding their might.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
Defcon 0 enacted, 81
It’s really quite rare.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
To safeguard their nation, 85
Guns surrounded their lair.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
Surely we’d notice, 89
Were we given a sign.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
Too busy with that thing, 93
That hid out of sight.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
‘Round the corner we peered, 97
We did with great care.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
We saw him, a person, 101
His feet oh quite bare.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
Poor he was surely, 105
All covered in grime.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
He asked us for our help, 109
We shouldn’t, but might.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
The agents at distance, 113
To that unaware.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
We followed the beggar, 117
To see how he fared.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
A courtyard we entered, 121
We followed the wight.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of time.
The agents approached, 125
It took them some time.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of fright.
The foliage all deadened, 129
All dark brown and bare.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of where.
The agents arrived, 133
At those looming gates.
Our interest was piqued,
Just a matter of care.
It started with me, 137
And 3 of my friends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The agents bombarded, 141
The gates then were rent.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The castle was shaking, 145
And debris was raining.
We had an idea,
We were improvising.
We hurried but quickly, 149
We’d broken all rules.
We had an idea,
We were all us fools.
Us four we all knew, 153
Might never come back.
We had an idea,
We based it on facts.
We spiraled on downwards, 157
Towards our maybe ends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The agents had entered, 161
They’d begun arriving.
We had an idea,
We were improvising.
Swiftly we gathered, 165
All of our gray tools.
We had an idea,
We were all us fools.
We raced on downwards, 169
We couldn’t be lax.
We had an idea,
We based it on facts.
The agents were searching, 173
For us to attend.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
We knew that if we’re caught, 177
It could mean us dying.
We had an idea,
We were improvising.
The barrels all set down, 181
We’d wished us for mules.
We had an idea,
We were all us fools.
A dark trail we laid down, 185
It revealed our tracks.
We had an idea,
We based it on facts.
A tunnel we ran down, 189
But slowed at the bends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The agents discovered, 193
Our thin silver lining.
We had an idea,
We were improvising.
We lit the long fuse, 197
Surrounded by ghouls.
We had an idea,
We were all us fools.
The skyline then flashed bright, 201
The explosion maxed.
We had an idea,
We based it on facts.
It started with me, 205
And 3 of my friends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends.
The agents that survived, 209
A plan they then penned.
They had an idea,
They had no loose ends.
They rushed to the portal, 213
To earth they returning.
They had an idea,
They weren’t improvising.
They gathered their forces, 217
And gathered their tools.
They had an idea,
Not one was a fool.
They lied there and waited, 221
For us to come back.
They had an idea,
They based it on facts.
We just had to go back, 225
A choice from us rent.
They had an idea,
They had no loose ends.
Farewell to our new friend, 229
That lowly old ghoul.
They had an idea,
Not one was a fool.
We trudged through the ruins, 233
The sun was still shining.
They had an idea,
They weren’t improvising.
Snowing it began, 237
What fell down was ash.
They had an idea,
They based it on facts.
The spirits at last, 241
Were back on the mend.
They had an idea,
They had no loose ends.
The spirits at peace, 245
No longer were ruled.
They had an idea,
Not one was a fool.
An army of ghosts, 249
That to them needed proving.
They had an idea,
They weren’t improvising.
We walked back to our start, 253
A long, grueling track.
They had an idea,
They based it on facts.
The portal we stepped through, 257
To our homes we’re sent.
They had an idea,
They had no loose ends.
The agents were waiting, 261
They played by the rules.
They had an idea,
Not one was a fool.
To this we appeared, 265
Ghosts by us surrounding.
They had an idea,
They weren’t improvising.
We left the country, 269
A choice not we had.
They had an idea,
They based it on facts.
It started with me, 273
And 3 of my friends.
We had an idea,
We had some loose ends. 276
