On Your Own
Some journeys
You have to make
On your own.
No one else
Can come with you.
This section of the path
You have to traverse
On your own.
It’s your journey in a way
That it can’t be anyone else’s.
When you begin to do this,
You understand
That in a real sense,
Alone is the truest truth.
In a lifetime, unless
It’s a really short one,
There’s no one else
Who comes along with you
From birth to death.
Slowly you understand
That even when you’re not alone,
Your life journey is yours.
No one else can walk
Your path for you.
Earlier this would have
Sparked the despair
Of loneliness.
Now, it’s a beautiful acceptance
Of empowerment that
Comes with the knowledge,
Once you figure out
How to work with yourself
And not against yourself,
You’ve got a partner for life.
One that is literally
There for you
Every step of the way.
You walk together
As if there’s no separation.
Because there’s none.
What loneliness?
Embrace your solitude.
Dare to walk alone.
