I don’t like the songs of mockingbirds

Or deception of a smile

What did I ever do to deserve

This dreading all the while

I can’t stop seeing mockingbirds

no matter where I roam

And it seems no matter what I try

I can’t learn to let it go

If I caught one

Locked up the cage

Threw away the key

Just to somehow realize

locked up in that cage was me

But after giving everything

some tender thought and time

It’s clear a mockingbird is seen only

By it’s own kind

One day when I was busy and

I didn’t have the time

To see that there were mockingbirds

all around in life

They didn’t get to me at all because

to that life I was now blind

And I couldn’t recognize them because

I’m of a different kind

inspirational
