“It’s just men being men”

That’s what an older woman told me when I confided about abuse.

By Rachel VandiverPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I used to be used to it.

I wore their abuse like a tailored suit, made to fit.

Watch your six.

They’ll have you on the crucifix for being a Feminist- They say the word as if it’s venomous.

As if the title should offend us.

That’s not what offends us.

We wage wars with men that we’re bound to lose. The brave ones have tried, armed with proof and what’s left of their pride...but, the truth is useless in the hands of the ruthless.

Those eager hands, and all their sordid demands.

They call us whores as we’re burned at the stake- because we made the mistake of being raped.

They’ll say we asked for it, that it’s all lies. Think nothing of it.

They’ll look us dead in our eyes and say that we loved it.
