It never was
a poem about "almost"
How can I be sad
over something I never had?
Fondness that, for me, had started to grow,
my emotions were playing catch and throw.
It was over before it even began.
You took a tiny piece of my heart and ran.
When dancing along in my mind...
we were walking hand in hand in the moonlight.
Kissing me and telling me everything will be alright,
playful nights in the sheets,
Morning snuggles and you holding onto me for keeps...
Cute nicknames and picking up dinner,
wiping my tears and telling me I’m a winner...
The longing of moments we never had and never will.
It’s the almost that hurts and gets me in my feels.
Ill watch my Drew Barrymore movies and cry,
eat all the ice cream, and lie...
Lie to myself that it wasn’t that bad.
For who cries over something they never had?
