It Ended Already

Starting and stopping and missing the best parts.

Did it start yet?

No, it stopped already.

I'm always missing the beginning.

Caught on the scorpion-tail of the end.

Because I'm too good for clocks and timekeeping

And best friends.

I never catch the beginning,

I never see the anthem sung or the infectious parade

Of the athletes as they burst out of the gates

Like horses off to their own races.

I'm stuck on a leash,

Yanking, tugging, choking myself hoarse

With trying to get there on time

But I'm going the wrong way.

Always going the wrong way.

I missed the start again.

It's my favorite part, you know,

When everything has the balls to finally go.

When the crowd gets real quiet.

Reverent.

For the dead.

Am I dead?

Because there's a pit inside.

Maybe that's why I miss the beginnings.

Because I am an end myself.

Ouch! “Caught on the scorpion-tail of the end. Because I'm too good for clocks and timekeeping And best friends.” such powerful, cutting, and sadly kind of relatable lines…
