It Did Not Matter

And suddenly, it all mattered

Who saw who first?

Once locked eyes,

it did not matter

A whirlwind romance

Once it began,

nothing mattered

He said, "I just got out of something serious,"

Once he touched her,

that did not matter

He said "I love you" first

And when she said it back

it did not matter

Once recluse, he brought her out

Nothing mattered

Until he began to distance himself

And suddenly

It all mattered

The way he used to look at her,

this mattered

The way he used to touch her,

didn't that matter?

"You said you loved me"

Now, what's the matter?

It was a love that made nothing else matter

And suddenly she was left wondering

Why it was her,

who no longer mattered.
