Is a Hot Dog a Sandwich?

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

I really can’t see,

why it sits in the bun

like a half-fallen tree.

The hot dog family

is quite hard to determine.

It’s not fried or roasted.

Neither British nor Cuban.

Dip it in ketchup,

but it’s not a grilled cheese.

Douse it with mustard,

not a Reuben though, jeez.

I just want a plain hotdog

like I loved as a kid.

Why's it left open?

Even burgers have lids.

There is simply one reason,

that hot dogs can’t make it.

Primarily since they just

lie down and take it.

Even spaghetti has a sandwich

to fill.

Chicken salad or egg,

either toasted or chilled.

But not our poor hotdog,

he’s left out of the pile.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Or are we all in denial?
