Irish Goodbye

Day 11 of 365 - prompt: farewell

By Ellie HoovsPublished about a year ago 1 min read

I thought that I knew you

like the dirt road I grew up on

you couldn't count the stars

but you could count them in the sky.

then you veered left

the road home went right

and you were never quite the same

you fell into that ditch

but told everyone that you were unscathed

Part of you was left behind

and I still cry at that grave

knowing life will never be the same.

You left without leaving

and you never said anything.

So I eat lucky charms at midnight

by myself.

lonely.

Beautiful poem. I especially loved the line, "You left without leaving". Powerful stuff!
