Introspection
On Love

So I read a poem yesterday that really caused me to reflect on my own thoughts and ideas about love. It was " the ACHE she chose" by Komal, and it's a "pain put to pen on paper" poem and it is palpable.
It got me thinking about how we love, and what happens with, and to, that love we give in different situations. When we love someone, we give them parts of us that no-one else gets. We give them an offering of our private selves in a vulnerable way. But when it's not reciprocated, we still retain that love within us- it isn't subtracted from our heart and soul. I think it's the only currency that we give to someone and yet still keep all of. And if it is reciprocated but the relationship ends, the same thing happens. We have given it away and yet it remains; we still have it within us. It's an amazing concept to me that we give it away, and keep it, all at the same time.
Material articles are traded back and forth between people and can be returned or discarded, but the heart and soul keep the unseen articles. And even though love is not a material article, its destination affects not only what we gave to that person, but also what we hold within us still. And yet, even still, we have all the love that we need to give to another person. It is never deducted from us, even though we may change the way we give it away again. Maybe it's because Love is of God, who has given us Compassion.
It reminds me of an algebraic equation that has no solution. Or is every number in it a real number, a part of the solution? It's confounding like algebra, though.
Because, at the end of the day, the only love we keep is the love we give away.

Congrats on Top Story here! :D
It really is something to think about! I ponder about what love is as well. Especially the vulnerableness of it.
Very good point. Let us live today to give away love.
Ayy, what a warm, wise little brain hug this was! Colleen. So glad that my poem got you thinking about love. The “we give it and still have it” bit is perfect take on. Loved the God-compassion tie-in and the algebra moment made me smile. 😊💖
Colleen, this is nothing short of beautiful! My favorite part: " we have all the love that we need to give to another person. It is never deducted from us, even though we may change the way we give it away again." Congratulations on your top story!
Well-wrought! In all equations, the ultimate sum must be zero. This is not a nihilistic statement, but one which indicates the inevitable balance to which all things must issue, and the responsibility which those who love have to consider this inevitability and act accordingly.
